El italiano Jannik Sinner, número 2 de la ATP, resistió el ímpetu que exhibió el danés Holger Rune (7°) y lo derrotó en tres sets para avanzar a las semifinales del Masters 1.000 de Montecarlo, con parciales de 6-4, 6-7(6) y 6-3.

El segundo favorito del torneo monegasco sacó adelante sin contratiempos el primer parcial, pero en el segundo su rival exhibió un tenis más pulcro e igualó el marcador en el tie-break, tras un polémico capítulo en que reclamó al juez de silla y a un supervisor por un encontrón con el público.

La tercera manga fue más fácil para el nacido en San Cándido, quien estuvo sólido para dar un buen paso al partido que tiene un cupo a la final en juego.

Su rival será el griego Stefanos Tsitsipas, que sacó de la ruta al título al ruso Karen Khachanov.
